As we move on from the very festive end of the year, which included holidays like Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and New Years Day, there is one other important holiday-like event that most American’s enjoy celebrating. The Super Bowl!

Each year, the 5 month long Football season comes to a dramatic finish during the first weekend in February. Out of 32 different teams in the National Football League (NFL), the two best teams always go head-to-head in one of the biggest sports spectacles of the year. The Super Bowl is a prime-time football game that can be seen all over the world and is celebrated by many Americans who gather to watch the game. In fact, whichever city is hosting the Super Bowl usually turns into a wild and crazy place while thousands of fans show up to support their teams. Even though Americans across the board enjoy watching this event, football towns like Denver can have many sad fans when their team is not playing.

The first Super Bowl ever was played in 1967 between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers. Since that day, 48 Super Bowls have taken place with a variety of winners. Over time, this event has grown from just a football game to something much more significant. Nowadays the Super Bowl is a huge time for businesses and music-makers all across the United States. In fact, those who aren’t even football fans tune in; solely to watch the electrifying half-time show that features today’s most popular singers, or for the elaborate (not to mention expensive) commercials for some of the biggest companies in the world, like Coca-Cola, Apple, and Doritos.

If this is your first time hearing about the Super Bowl or your first time being able to watch it in the United States of America, I encourage you to experience it fully and celebrate it just like an American football fan. Watch the game, eat great food, and enjoy the commercials – all great ways to expand your English experience.

Follow the countdown to the Super Bowl. Colorado’s home team aren’t playing in the big game this year, but the plethora of sports teams Denver has will keep you entertained year-round; check them out!
